With the success of “The Jungle Book”, “Maleficent”, and “Cinderella” there is of course the long list of awaited live action films remaking the classics. Especially with the ones coming in 2016 with “Pete’s Dragon” and “Through the Looking Glass”. But the one question that I wonder is…why isn’t the Lion King on this list?
Thinking on the long list of new live action films to come, there is all a common theme as to why these films are being remade. Either, there is a strong human lead, like “The Jungle Book”, or there are only elements of the movie that need to be in CGI such as “Through the Looking Glass”.
Looking into the successes of these movies, we have yet to see though the “Lion King” to be reprised in anyway. The Lion King, being part of the Renaissance era of the Walt Disney Company, did so well in the box office, it is a wonder why they wouldn’t bring this film to the big screen once again, but this time with CGI makeover.
It is not surprise that while cartoon animation was the breakthrough in cinematic history which “Pete’s Dragon”, “Mary Poppins”, and even “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” that Hollywood would try to once again recreate the experience with computer technology.
What do you think? Do you think the “Lion King” should be added to the releases of a ‘live action’ movies being released over the next few years?
